Publication schedule and dates
Chronotopos aims to publish two issues per volume. The year in the issue designation refers to the volume year. The actual online publication date is shown separately on each issue page and may fall in a later calendar year.
Calls for papers and updates on forthcoming issues are published under Announcements. Contributions may be submitted throughout the year via the submission page; deadlines for specific focus issues are stated in the relevant call.
The time from first submission to publication varies with peer review, revisions and the production schedule of the issue. For an estimate relating to a particular submission, please contact the editorial team.
Peer review and revisions
Research articles. The editors first assess the manuscript’s relevance to the journal and its suitability for review. Research articles, including those in special issues, then undergo double-anonymous peer review by two independent reviewers. Authors’ and reviewers’ identities are not disclosed to the other side in the standard procedure. Authors submit an anonymized manuscript for review.
Revisions and decisions. A request for revisions means that the contribution remains under consideration. Authors revise the manuscript and explain how they have addressed the reports; suggestions they do not adopt should be discussed with a reasoned response. Revisions are uploaded to the existing submission unless the editors explicitly request a new submission. Questions and differing assessments can be discussed with the editors. The editorial team makes the final decision based on the reports and the revised manuscript.
Other contribution types. Book reviews, conference reports, historical documents and comparable formats are assessed by the editors and do not undergo the research-article peer-review procedure.
Confidentiality and voluntary exchange. Review reports are confidential and are not published automatically. Direct contact between authors and reviewers, disclosure of identities or publication of reports is possible only by prior explicit agreement of everyone involved. Participation is voluntary and is not a condition of publication.
